Powertech Rotations

Bounty hunter powertechs have many attacks they can use when they are in battle but what attacks you use and when will determing how good your DPS or how well you can tank targets.

The first thing you have to keep in mind is most attacks/abilities that bounty hunters use use a resource called heat. If abilities that use heat are cast too quickly heat will build up and the cooldown rate goes down. If you get too hot you will not be able to attack or use other abilities. Carefull management of heat allows the bounty hunter to be a much more effective tank/DPS'r.

Powertech Tanking Rotation:

Single Target Tanking Rotation:

Opening fights with: Death from Above(a high damage AOE attack), Jet Charge, Oil Slick(damage reduction).

Then starts our single target powertech rotation:

Rocket Punch > Rapid Shot > Rail Shot > Rapid Shot > Flame Burst > Rapid Shot > RocketPunch > Rail Shot > Explosive Dart > Rail Shot > Heat Blast > Rapid Shot

A little about each skill:

Rapid Shot - is used a lot in the rotation and we use this a lot to keep our heat down, the hotter we get the slower we cooldown. The key to playing a powertech is heat management. Rapid Shot uses no heat but does damage and agro to the target so should always be considered the go to filler to avoid heat issues. Heat reduction can be done with Vent Heat if it creeps up too high in battle, as things do happen..

  1. Rocket Punch - An attack that does heavy damage, procs Ion Gas Cylinder and allow you to be able to use Rail Shot. You will want to use this everytime it is off of cooldown along with Rail Shot.
  2. Rail Shot - A high DPS attack that can only usable against incapacitated targets and targets suffering from periodic damage.
  3. Flame Burst - 2% damage reduction debuff plus damage to target.
  4. Explosive Dart - a high damage low heat attack that also does AOE damage.
  5. Heat Blast - this attack actualy lowers our heat and should be cast whenever it is not off of cooldown as a way to keep heat in check.

AOE Tanking Rotation:

Start once again with Death from Above(a high damage AOE attack), Jet Charge, Oil Slick(damage reduction).

Then the multi target powertech tanking rotation starts:

Flame Sweep > Rapid Shot > Explosive Dart > Rapid Shot > Flame Sweep > Rapid Shot > Rocket Punch > Rapid Shot > Flame Sweep > Rapid Shot > Heat Blast > Rapid Shot

A little about the attacks:

  1. Flame Sweep - One of our main damage attacks we use with multiple targets, it effects up to 5 targets.
  2. Rapid Shot - Once again this attack does not generate heat so use this whenever you have heat, makes a good filler between your other attacks.
  3. Explosive Dart - This little dart does a lot of damage and should be used whenever it is off of cooldown.
  4. Heat Blast - is an attack that actualy lowers our heat and should be cast whenever it is not off of cooldown after heat buildup.
  5. Rocket Punch and Rail Shot - can be used to increase single target threat.

Not there at the end of our rotation depending on your heat you maybe able to replace a Rapid Shot with a Flame Sweep (if you want to do more AOE damage) or Rail Shot (to increase threat on main target), this may not be posible due to your heat situation but keep this in mind. Remeber to use Vent Heat if you get in trouble heat wise.

Powertech DPS Rotations

Powertech Advanced Proto Type DPS Rotation:

Single target Powertech DPS rotation is:

  1. Rapid Shots - When above 15 heat
  2. Rail Shot - When Charged Gauntlets procs(causes your next Rail Shot to crit)

  6. Flame Burst - This is the main filler attack cast you can use when cool and the above options are not available. When Flame Burst is used it puts a stack of Prototype Flame Thrower on target that allows Flame Thrower to do 10% more damage and it can stack up to 5 times. This attack can also proc Flame Barrage.

Pyrotech AOE DPS rotation for 4 plus mobs:
